AI identity licensing checklist
Before an AI-generated face or voice enters production, use these twenty-four checks to make sure the buyer brief, permission, controls and evidence join up.
Buyer brief
- Is the agency, brand or other intended licensee named?
- Is the person sought named, or is the type of person specific enough to source with consent?
- Are the campaign and intended use described?
- Are the proposed channels, territory and languages stated?
- Are the production timing and intended licence term stated?
Identity and authority
- Has the real person’s identity been independently verified?
- Did the person explicitly agree to participate before being listed, cloned or used?
- Do both parties sign the same version of the agreement?
- If a representative is involved, is their authority clear?
Licence scope
- Does the licence state whether face, voice, name, body or another identity element is covered?
- Are script, claims, edit boundaries and approval rights written down?
- Are excluded categories and uses explicit?
- Is permission from the person recorded separately from any commercial rights granted by the AI tool?
- Does any change outside the signed scope require fresh review before production continues?
Delivery, payment and control
- Does the licence identify the exact face or voice asset version?
- Who can access, copy or export that asset?
- Does the delivery route match the asset, such as a licensed face reference pack or hosted, metered voice generation?
- Is payment secured before licensed delivery or generation unlocks?
- Does revocation stop future licensed delivery or generation?
Output evidence and client handoff
- Does every registered release link back to the person, asset and licence?
- Is the generation or release event recorded?
- Is provenance cryptographically bound to the output or discoverable from it?
- Can an independent third party run the verifier?
- Does the client handoff include the agreement hash, scope, term, asset version, current licence status and release receipts?
The decision rule
If any answer is missing, do not let a polished dashboard or a synthetic-media label fill the gap. Resolve the missing permission, term or evidence before production.
For a worked example of the technical checks, inspect a signed synthetic receipt. The walkthrough shows what changes when the permission reference, file bytes or signing key changes, and keeps the missing buyer evidence visible.
The evidence room shows where that receipt sits inside the wider identity, consent, licence, payment, generation and revocation chain.

Common questions
What is the minimum evidence for AI likeness licensing?
At minimum, establish the real person, their explicit agreement, the permitted scope, the covered asset and a reliable connection between the licence and each output.
Is a watermark enough?
No. A watermark can disclose synthetic media but does not by itself establish identity, consent, licence scope or expiry.
When should payment be secured?
On SocialGravity, payment is secured before licensed delivery or generation unlocks.
